It's springtime and we're getting ready

Mark you calendars for Saturday, June 14th. That's when the Women's 4-Miler Training Program kicks off its 15th year.

We're already planning a great season to get you ready for the women's 4-miler in August. Registration forms are starting to appear around town and should be online soon. The cost is only $15, for 12-weeks of training. Remember, race registration is separate.

Women and girls ages 10 and up are invited to participate. The sessions start at 7:45am and feature informative speakers and training programs for all levels of runners and walkers.

More information will follow, but feel free to post any questions here.

See you in June!

A ten year old is not a woman. I have participated in the training program for two years. I feel this is not a place for 10 to 14 year old children. Maybe 17...??? Last year there was talk of drinking and sex by the director. This clearly is an adult program. It should be. Moms would like a place to play without the eyes and ears of our young children.

Really? My daughter and I participated for the first time last year. I really don't recall any comments from the director that were not appropriate. We have been looking forward to this all year. My daughter is age 12 and runs track with her middle school. I find getting involved with my 12 year old is very inspiring, bonding, and she is my own little "pink lady". I encourage all young women to participate. Perhaps we can break this cycle of childhood obesity, and at the same time educate our young women about women's health issues.

This is a great way to encourage young girls to start an exercise program. One year my 3 girls, their grandmother and I all did it. We had a blast and got fit at the same time!
