I'm just so proud of you

This week and last, some of you have told me that you just ran longer than you ever have in your life. When you say it, you're all smiling. I am so proud of you.

Just showing up sometimes can be the hardest part. You all are showing up. You're doing the long runs, you're doing the rookie runs, you're making friends and accomplishing goals every week.

YOU are the reason I show up each week. Thank you for sharing your successes. We'll make it all the way to the race together, and hopefully you'll keep running/walking into the fall and beyond.

See you on the road,
Deb

And thank YOU for this program. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that there has been a Pink Lady beside me every step of the way, giving helpful advice and cheering me on. There's no way I would have come this far without you. I'm so grateful.

I couldn't agree more. I went the furtherst today since I began running 1 1/2 years ago. Before this program, I didn't push myself and was content in the short easy run. Today I pushed myself, and had a pink lady at my side encouraging me the entire way. Thank you so much for this. I'm really looking forward to race day, and keeping this up for life. What a great program!!

I also think the program is great, but I need some help. I run/walk about a 14 1/2 min mile. How can I make the "leap" to running the entire distance? Any suggestions out there?

I've been running for over a year now, and I still like to take some walk breaks. Don't try to push yourself before you're ready to run without walk breaks. Keep training and it'll come! If you really want to, you could time your run/walk. Run 4 min, walk 1, and then gradually increase run time.

I don't want to give up but I've been out for a month now with an injury. Is there any advice on how I can get back to where I need to be in order to be on track? (no pun intended!) I really want to be ready for the 4 miles... (I-B-Newbie)

I have to agree with starting with shorter distances and then gradually increase. When I first started running last year, my goal was to run half a lap around the track, then each week I increased that distance until I was able to run a full lap without walking. Over a period of many months, I finally got up to a mile. On the days I didn't run, I tried to walk even further so I could continue to get in shape. Remember though, it takes time to get up to running distances, especially if you are just a beginner. Push yourself mentally and your body will follow. Good luck!

Back on June 27th someone asked about finding a resource for cross-training... I stumbled onto this link: http://www.runtheplanet.com/trainingracing/

Yesterday was the 1st day I've been able to go out on the road with everyone. While I struggled with the 3 miles, I got encouragement not only from the Pink Ladies, but also from the other women running...most on their way back before I hit the turn around point!! But thank you all, you helped me keep trying and I spent less time walking than I would have without everyone's encouragement.

You all amaze me every week with your kindness and support for each other!

Here are the artists of the songs you mentioned:

Ready to Run--Dixie Chicks
Never Alone--Sheryl Crow

Not sure about the other one…Perhaps one of these?

The Time of My Life- David Cook
Was That My Life?- Jo Dee Messina

That's from our wonderful music ladies, Linda and Arleen.

I also got so much encouragement from the Pink Ladies and other runners. It definitely helped keep me going. I am truely amazed at what I've been able to do. I was ready to give up just a few weeks ago and just last week I sent in registration for another race 2 weeks before the 4 Miler. This is a wonderful program. Thank you.

I've been doing some personal research in my attempts to find the right running shoe (after having my gait checked) and came across this that I think has some good information. (I'm not advertising for Dick's, but this general info seems to be coming up over-and-over from those I've spoken with and with other information I've researched.) If it is helpful, great. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/info/index.jsp?categoryId=222919

...and yes, this program is awesome! I'm enjoying the connectiveness and the running/walking and encouragement from everyone! Very empowering!
