A message from Joan

We are sorry about the storms this past Saturday and having to cancel. Our concern is always for your safety and well being. Since Z-95 (our radio station of choice) was off the air due to a power outage, we had no way of reaching many of you earlier.

We will try hard to reschedule our "Happy Feet" presentation along with the surprise the Pinks had in store for you! This Saturday, July 12th), we will have all our favorite shoe folks here (at the track) who will be happy to meet with you individually and discuss the best shoe for your foot and make it happy.

***Also, the big, green bleachers are gone. Make sure you bring a chair or towel or blanket to sit on.

Glad to know that the training was cancelled - now I don't feel so guilty for rolling over and going back to sleep! But I did get my 3 mile run in later in the day at the gym.

Keep running!

On a different topic, perhaps you would consider making a new announcement about the blog spot on Saturday, particularly the "Joggin Jane's" link. I have a feeling there are a lot of women who are still looking for walking/running partners, but don't know about this link on the blogspot. Thanks!

I always check this blog for information on whether the run has been canceled. Maybe it would be a good idea to post here as well as doing the radio spots...I'm sure there are lots of women who would/do check here. It's a lot faster to check here than to wait for an announcement on the radio...especially if the radio is off the air. Thanks for being concerned for our safety. I love the W4MTP!

Yeah...I did my own judgement call on Saturday! I too rolled over and went back to sleep!

I would have posted here, but I was at the track waiting for word myself.

Maybe if the Radio Station is off (power outage, etc), maybe they could work it out with the sister stations to announce it. I know their sister station 3WV was on air.

HI Ladies - I missed today (unexpectedly). Would anyone be so kind as to post a recap?

Hi, Ladies. I'm looking for some advice and motivation. I've been so proud of my progress until the last week. I seem to be getting tired easier and am having a difficult time completing longer runs. Today's 2.5 run just about killed me. In fact, I ran/walked the last .75 or so. It seems that while everyone else is progressing, I'm REgressing! Advice? Feeling a bit discouraged but want to keep at it. Will I ever run more than 2 miles? :)

Hi Runner/walker,

--You may be pushing too quickly. Take a step back, and don't compare yourself to the next person. We all hit plateaus. The "hares" may hit theirs next week. Listen to your body...if it says walk then walk. If it says not today, take the day off guilt free. Periodic resting allows muscle to grow. As one of our ultra-marathon speakers reminded us last year....It is OKAY to walk if your body tells you to.

--Going around in circles on a hot track is boring! Find a PINK or a friend (new or old), and start yakking...then you happily may even lose count of the laps--In my opinion this is most healthy!

--Get out during the week, with our Rookie Runs or on your own. Even "The "Park" below the JAG School is more interesting than the track. ...and if you hit it right, the sprinklers may be on for a quick cooling.

--Note: When the newcomer group progresses to off the track trips, the hills may slow you down again....hence it is time to turn the "run" temporarily into a walking garden tour!

--In other words find your own personal way to:

"Enjoy the Journey"!

With patience, you will reach your goals.

Hi thirtysomething,

How's your nutrition and hydration? With the increase in exercise you need to adjust you diet and water intake. Are you eating enough - including eating something before the runs? Are you drinking more water all week?
Also, have you mentioned your concerns to the Pinks? They may have some suggestions.
Good luck. Please don't give up!! You'll break through this challenge! You go girl!!

- slow & steady

All good suggestions. Things that have slowed me down have been:

Going out too fast. If I use it all up at the start, there's nothing left at the finish.

Not drinking enough water during the week. I've noticed I have better runs when I get enough water all week, not just on Friday.

Account for the humidity. The heat and humidity will take a lot out of you. Factor that in and set your expectations accordingly.

Run with a friend. My worst runs are the ones I do solo. It's way more interesting to chat, or just listen. Running is a great way place to talk out your problems, even if it's talking to yourself.

Hope some of that helps.
