The fun run!!

From Pink Debby (the tall blond)

We're having a fun run to get you race ready.

Next Tuesday (August 19th) evening - gather at 6:00 p.m. at the Track.

The route is very scenic tour of the UVA Grounds and the Lewis Mtn Road neighborhood. There will be water stops, timers calling out "splits" (your time) at each of the Miles, prizes (including door prizes), and prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places, food, music and fun.

If you plan on running the fun run, don't run Tuesday morning.

If we have family that would like to be there on Tuesday to cheer us on, where would you suggest they be?

I missed this Saturday's training, I was running the Carl Tribastone 5K at Forest Lakes. What was added to the newcomers run to bring it up to 4 miles. I like to run this course during the week :) Hopefully I will be at the Fun Run on Tuesday.

I guess the easiest way to tell you of the 4 mile from Saturday is to (from the track) go RIGHT and keep straight to almost Fry Springs Club... but you will go around the Church there--just before the club-- and straight back to the track! :)

Tuesdays run sounds like it is mainly geared for the runners and not the walkers... being a walker, I'm wondering if I should be there?

Hi! The handbook we received at the beginning of the training said we were to receive a confirmation package mid-August. I've not received anything. Should I be concerned or have they gone out? Can someone address this if they know? Thanks!

the street runs have been more targeted for "runners". I guess walkers are going to have to tough it out on the 30th.
It would be nice if the pink ladies acknowledge some of the posting on the boards...

The fun run is for ALL participants. It's a good way to prep you for the race with line-up and water stops etc.

As for race confirmation, they should be mailed out this week (according to race HQ).

Thank you Pink Deb! :) Looking forward to it!! :)

I've NOT felt like the street runs have been more targeted for "runners". Being out there with the runners is awesome and empowering. I can not tell you how many women who were running passed me with positive encouragement even though I walking! This is an incredible experience and I'm definitely enjoying the journey... and consider it only the beginning!

If you have concerns about walking the race on the 30th there are walking pink lady leaders to talk with. Walkers have a program designed, within the running program for walking the race and to correctly continue exercising.

There are tons of walkers that participate in the race. Trust me, you won't be the only one there. Debby is a good resource as well as the other Walking coaches.

If we have family and friends coming tonight to cheer us on, where should they gather? The post mentions the course will go through UVA grounds, but is not specific enough for me to pass on to my cheering squad.

Start and finish will be down Alderman at the track.

That was a fun run for sure! The last 1/2 mile was challenging in the heat. Call me a wimp, but it would have been nice to have had one more water break...

Hope everyone had a good time. Wish I could have been there, but the heat was a bit much for me.

Last night ROCKED! I was really glad that I drank my 104 oz of water yesterday. The last half mile kicked my butt. And I really appreciated the man on Lewis Mountain Rd that was hosing people as the passed his house. I think he throughly enjoyed spraying us women ;).
My time was faster than last year's 4 miler and the course we ran last night was much tougher than the actual race course.
Thanks to Panera for the yummy bagels those hit the spot!

I heard we are going to run first Saturday and then hear the speaker? Last week when I got back to the track, most people had already left. Will I miss the speaker this week? Should I cut my run short?

I'm afraid I going to miss Mark's important tips for the uncoming race; why is the format changing for this Saturday?

Anonymous said...

I think it's very important that Mark have a captive audience and that just doesn't happen after the run. People trickle back to the track at various times, then stretch, and most want to leave soon thereafter. Unless this is Mark's request, I hope that the schedule will be changed back to allow Mark to speak to the full group before we run on Saturday. He's got great advice for everyone, experienced and inexperienced alike, and it'd be a shame to miss it.

So are we running first? What time will that be? I would hate to miss the last Saturday run before the race.

It looks like it's going to be run first, speaker second. Try to get to the track by 7:45. We'll do our routes and gather back at the track.

I really think Mark's race day tips are very important and helpful, so we'll try to make sure everyone is back and together for his talk.

I just want to say 'thank you' for all that you all (the Pink Ladies & Joan) do for the group and in organizing the events! I truly appreciate all that has been (thus far) and is here for us.

Pink hearts all around!!

I have participated in this program for a couple of years and parking hasn't been an issue. You may want to leave a few minutes early just in case.
