Some of you have been asking about cooler clothing and this stuff called wicking material. Wicking clothing is made of materials that do not absorb moisture. Instead, they are designed to transport sweat away from your skin and into the outermost surface of the garment. They have shirts, bras, shorts, shorts, pants, hats and socks in wicking material to name a few. You can buy these clothes at a running or sports store or if you like to bargain hunt there are a few other places that carry these clothes including: T. J. Max, Marshall’s, and Target.
If you find some place that has good stuff please feel free to post and let others know, as a lot of us love a good deal. Additionally, you will get a wick shirt at the packet pickup of the 4 miler race and if you continue to do races many races give out wick shirts at the packet pickup and so after about 6 races you have a nice selection of shirts to choose from.
Have a great week!! PL Heidi

When I first started the four miler training three years ago, I wore cotton shorts and shirts, and before the four miler when I was just running I wore jeans :-0 Now that I have a wicking shirt and bra, I would never again wear a cotton shirt. Often they make the difference between a fun run and a horrible run. Target's a pretty good place to get wicking clothes, but sometimes a little expensive.
I found a running outfit that I adore at Ragged Mountain Running Shop. Pricier than I would normally spend on exercise clothes, but I just wash it out in the sink and it dries quickly, so I only need one outfit. And so worth it! I used to have terrible problems with heat rash when I would run outside in the summer, and since I've gone to wicking material it hasn't bothered me. Also, for those of us who are more *ahem* endowed, I've found that jms.com has an excellent selection of sufficiently supportive jogging bras (which I've found very hard to find in any of the physical stores around town).
I also have found it very motivational to have a special outfit for running in, that isn't the same clothing I'd use for working in the garden or something.
Walmart(!) had some nice running tanks for $5. They were the wicking material too. You can sometimes find nice running gear at Rugged Warehouse near TJ Maxx.
Dick's Sporting Goods is having a pretty good sale right now. They're also offering an additional 25% off of some clearance stuff. Sale isn't limited to the racks marked "Clearance". I found some spectacular deals on shirts and running skirts on the regular racks. You just have to look for the orange tags.
fyi -- just read this and think it's important to know -- drying wicking clothes in dryer lessens the wicking power. not sure if tags state this (never read them) but i thought it was useful info.
