The last Saturday

This is our last Saturday before the race. Some things to be aware of:

It's move-in weekend at UVA.

We're going to run first and then have our speakers--Mark and Cynthia Lorenzoni will share important information about the race. You'll definitely want to stay for that.

Parking shouldn't be a problem at U-Hall.

Traffic will be heavy so it's crucial that you stick to the sidewalks and stop at EVERY intersection. Anxious parents and nervous 1st years will be abundant.

There will be a post run party the week after the race (Sept 6th). We'll have handouts for that so you'll know what to bring.

Make sure you pick up a gold ribbon to wear on race day. It's your diploma and it's also how spectators and other runners will know you took part in the training program. They will be available at the track on Saturday and at the rookie runs.

We've so enjoyed being a part of your journey. Thanks for your comments, suggestions, and success stories. Congratulations, we're so proud of you!

One word for this program, the pink ladies, the people I've met, the ones I haven't met, and all the runners and walkers - AWESOME!!!

I do not regret losing my Saturday mornings for such an AWESOME program. Thanks for pushing me, I'm pumped for next Saturday.

This training program has been awesome. I feel safe to say that I'm a runner now. I will be sad to see this program end but I wil definitely be glad to sleep in on Saturday. I will miss you and THANK YOU.

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me out today after I fell...especially Nell for talking me thru the embarassment of falling in front of the 1st year dorms and all the parents and Pam for helping me out once I made it back to the track.

I totally missed the speakers after our run! Can anyone answer these two questions:
a) Will there be any mile marker indications on race day? It really helps me to pace myself.

b) Where do we go from here? I'm still not totally running the 4 miles ( I walk at least a 1/4 of any run we do) but I want to get involved in something else and continue to grow as a runner. Any suggestions?

If there was anything else that was super important that I missed from the chat, please add that too! Thanks for your help. Pink ladies you are the bomb!!!! Thanks for such a great program. I feel great about myself ;)

I have ENJOYED THE JOURNEY!! and will miss the structure of the group runs and stretches and companionship, but intend on continuing this journey and returning next summer!

Thank you Joan! Thank you Pink Ladies who encourage and inspire! Thank all of you who I have met but do not know except by smiles and cheers!

I hope I find others who want to continue the Tue/Thurs/Sat trends! I plan to be there!!

I was at the run final training run on Saturday but missed what was said about Sept 6th. Can someone please post additional information on the blog?

There is a group that runs year round on Tues/Thurs/Sat. We have fast, no so fast, and walkers. We just show up and see who's there. Some of us will start 10-miler training and some just continue to run or walk. We look forward to new people joining in.

He said that we should get there early because traffic can get really bad. He said to do your normal routine on Saturday. He said to stay off your feet on Friday as much as possible. He said to warm up on Saturday as you normally do -- don't try to keep up with the folks who run 2 miles as a warm up if you don't normally do that. Hydrate hydrate hydrate. Don't try to run the course ahead of time because traffic on that road is terrible. Drive it if you want to see what it looks like, but don't run it.
